DANIELLE SMITH WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT SHANNON STUBBS TO SUPPORT LEADER IN PARTY-BUILDING ACTIVITIES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Edmonton, AB (February 2, 2010): Wildrose Alliance Leader Danielle Smith today welcomed Shannon Stubbs as her new Executive Assistant. "Shannon Stubbs has made the decision to leave a senior public affairs job with a national firm to help serve the members of the Wildrose Alliance and Albertans," said Smith. "Shannon will continue to reside in Edmonton and support me as we grow our party across the province. She will be a valuable resource for me, our expanding caucus and our party members." Stubbs' professional background spans the private, public and non-profit sectors, including positions with Hill & Knowlton, SAIT Polytechnic, Alberta Economic Development, the Alberta Department of Energy and the Alberta Lung Association. In addition, Stubbs worked for Deborah Grey, the Member of Parliament for Edmonton North, for a number of years. She began her career as a Media and Communications Intern in the office of then federal Opposition Leader, Preston Manning. Stubbs has a strong political background at both the federal and provincial level. She has served as:
- Co-MC of the 1998 Alberta Senate Election Nomination Day
- PC candidate in Edmonton Strathcona in 2004 (she was the youngest woman to ever run for the Alberta PCs at the age of 24 and the only woman who ran for them within the city of Edmonton in that election)
- Key 'youth' in the PC party's "renewal initiative" after the 2004 election
- Elected as Vice-President, Outreach on the Provincial PC Executive in 2006
"I am excited about the opportunity to work for Danielle Smith and the Wildrose Alliance to help build a new alternative for Albertans," said Stubbs. "Under Danielle Smith, the Wildrose Alliance reflects the fiscally responsible, small-c conservative and democratic reform values in which I have always believed. It is energizing to be a part of this growing party as we work to earn the confidence of Albertans and to develop a new vision for our province's future."
The Wildrose Alliance Party was formed in January 2008 and as of February 2010, the Wildrose has three elected MLAs and more than 13,000 members across Alberta.
